Hey! I’m Emilee…
Telling stories is my life.
Since I was a kid, I loved to read. When I was 9 years old, I stumbled across a book at the library called Taddy McFinley and the Great Grey Grimly by Heidi Salter. I found out that she was a young woman who had won a competition and her book ended up being published. I became obsessed with the idea. My old Windows 98 computer was littered with unfinished stories and my closet full of drawings of my characters. I would read my pieces to my best friends and my mom helped edit my work.
At the age of 15 I was entered into a storytelling competition by my perceptive mother. I performed an original short story called The Man With No Shoes and had no expectation for it going anywhere. To my surprise I was selected to be one of four highschoolers in the nation to perform at the 2008 National Youth Storytelling Showcase. I came in 4th place that year but I decided to keep trying. The next year I competed with my original story Hidden Keys and went to nationals again as one of four highschoolers in the nation. At this 2009 showcase I managed to win 2nd place in the highschool category. This opened up doors to perform my original stories at locations all over KY and teach workshops at the Kentucky Storytelling Conference. With all this experience under my belt, a dear friend and mentor saw my potential and offered to produce my very first storytelling CD. In 2010 “A Slice of Life With a Cup of Tea” debuted with 6 original short stories.
Since this was all right before college, I rode out my wave of fame until things got too busy. I still had a love for the art and would perform at any opportunity but my writing aspirations took a back seat. After experiencing a little life, I got connected to an online writing community by watching videos by Vivien Reis. This led to finding Jenna Moreci and Kim Chance who were all at different stages in their writing journeys. It made me realize that my lifelong dream to publish a book could become a reality.
In May 2019 I finally got to meet Kim Chance in person and meet fellow aspiring authors. It ignited my passion for the written word again and started me on a path to finally write my first novel. Since that time I have been putting in a lot of hours on my first full length novel entitled Consigned to Oblivion.
I’m currently living in Owensboro, KY and married to my elementary school sweetheart with our son, daughter, and our cat Henry. In addition to writing, I love video games, going to concerts, volunteering at my church, advocating for my son with down syndrome, and playing board games with friends.
